BAD KING JOHN
22nd October 2016 – Review by Rob
Bad King John is a strong 6% beer from the Ridgeway Brewery, which is run by Peter Scholey, former Head Brewer at Brakspear, and his wife Vanda.
The Ridgeway, a long distance ancient footpath passes just a few yards from the brewery’s front door in South Stoke – hence the name.
Bad king John is black, bitter, intense, like the ruthless man it honours. Do not come here looking for subtlety!
This is a class act, proper old school beer here, dark, flavoursome, reasonable strength, this is a pint of aggression in a bottle.
This is very reminiscent of a proper ale from a beer festival, it has the freshness and subtlety of a true English beer, thumbs up from me – go find and enjoy!
