25th October 2016 – Review by Rob
So, I get these Mocha Beers from Batemans home, and I’m excited – the last time I tried a Batemans beer was their Victory Ale and I loved it.
I stick them straight in the fridge for a couple of hours then pour into my pint glass… then I read the instructions: “Pour into a glass with a stem and serve at room temperature.”
I’d ruined the taste by putting it in the fridge, and ruined the smell by putting it in a pint glass!
Try again… right glass and correct temperature this time.
Lessoned learned here, check the bottle before shoving them all into the fridge, a bit more due care and attention at the start will reap the rewards when drinking.
This wonderfully creamy, rich indulgence contains real Arabica coffee and Belgian chocolate.
Now I like espressos and a full bodied drink so will this be any good for my pallet? Smell is strong coffee and chocolate aplenty. Taste is chocolate and coffee, and not much else. I can now see why to be served at room temperature, will rein in the chocolate taste and become more balanced.
I can see this going well as an alternative for port on the cheese and biscuits round of your Christmas dinner. In fact you should probably go as far as only drinking this with cheese and biscuits, this drink is crying out for a partner.
A fair enough drink, smooth and distinctly lack of alcoholic taste makes it a more-ish drink, don’t be fooled though at 6.0% this has plenty of kick to it, perfect for a special occasion, a great talking point on Christmas Day round your BeerClub family gatherings.
