DOUBLE CHOCOLATE STOUT
Review by Andy
Unsurprisingly for a beer from the Young’s stable, Double Chocolate Stout has been recognised as an award-winning brew on several occasions.
Luxurious and at the same time with a hint of decadence, Young’s Double Chocolate Stout has it all, delivering a satisfying, indulgent taste without ever becoming overly sweet.
Pale Ale and Crystal malt, Chocolate Malt, a special blend of sugars, Fuggle and Golding hops, real dark chocolate and chocolate essence are combined to deliver a stout of with real credentials.
I’d been looking forward to this one, usually chocolate in beer can be a bit hit & miss but Young’s to my experience seem to brew in the right way, so I was hopeful this would be decent.
To the initial smell, this is a stout a slight chocolate smell perhaps but certainly not over-bearing.
To the taste, this is more stout again, more of the chocolate shines through with hints of a smokey aftertaste that you’d expect from a stout.
This is nice, I’m not sure this is 100% what I expected as I certainly don’t get the double chocolate to the taste promised, however what it does deliver is a slightly sweet stout that is more than palatable. And in hindsight, although I was expecting more of a chocolate hit, the subtlety works well in this and what is produced is a very good beer.
