CAMDEN TOWN SAY…
Hells is the lovechild of our two favourite German beer styles – Helles and Pilsner. Clean, crisp and dry, it’s the beer we always wanted to drink and the reason we started our brewery. We hope you agree.
TAKES A WHOLE MONTH TO MAKE
In German, the word ‘lager’ means ‘to store’ and our Hells Lager spends 4 weeks in the tank. This is the proper length of time for lagering, the right amount of time for our Hells to acquire great depth of flavour and enough time to grow a pretty decent beard.
Not bratwurst or sauerkraut but Bavarian Lager yeast, Perle and Hallertau Tradition hops and our own special house Pilsner malt from Bamberg (we’re one of the only two breweries outside Germany to use it).
But like any proud parents, we can’t help mentioning that Hells has won International Brewing Awards Champion Keg Lager 2013, Bronze Medal European Beer Star 2013 and International Brewing Awards Silver 2015. Not bad for a 6 year old.
The first thing you notice once poured is the colour, very light, very pale looking, almost like a lager heavily watered down. This lager also has a slight gentle fizz.
This is a little different to your bog-standard lager, very nice tasting and I can see this being a big hit.
