GOOSE ISLAND
GOOSE IPA
Review by Andy
Goose Island says…
Our India Pale Ale recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result is a hop lover’s dream with a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, and long hop finish.
THE TASTE
Brewed and bottled in the USA, perhaps explains the strange bottle size of 355ml, too small again, we want pint servings, however the 5.9% strength does makes up for the small size somewhat.
A winner of no less than 6 Great American Beer Festival Awards, this Indian Pale Ale is described on the bottle as “Bright citrus aromas with a bold hop finish” certainly sounds good.
A fresh aroma, definitely smells nice and has a bitter aftertaste to it, not unpleasant. Nice and clean to the taste and very refreshing initially.
THE VERDICT
This is easy to drink and doesn’t taste its nearly 6%. Not sure why this has won 6 awards, whilst there is nothing inherently wrong here, there is nothing that hugely stands out to me.
A beer that went down a treat to be fair, and one for the ‘try so you can tick off’ rather than ‘must try before you die’ list, decent if not ‘wow.’

Great IPA but I do agree with you on the awards. It’s great but nothing overly special.

Really enjoyed it to be fair, but yeah not sure why all the awards. Although under closer inspection I believe the last one was around 2011 (could be wrong) will definitely try the rest of their range and review. Thanks for replying & following.

I sipped on a few when I found myself at a drag show. Don’t ask about the show part, but it was pretty good! Though I think even if it weren’t good, it certainly made the occasion more fun!

I think we all need to know more about this drag show!
